Research has shown that executive coaching has become increasingly popular as businesses recognize the benefits of investing in their leaders’ development. According to a study by the International Coach Federation (ICF), organizations that invest in coaching see an average return on investment of seven times their initial investment. In this context, Dr. Cree Scott, a licensed clinical psychologist, has focused the last 12 years of her career on leadership development and executive coaching and has become a highly respected expert in her field. She brings the rigor of psychology into the workplace and is known for her ability to help her clients uncover blind spots and self-limiting beliefs to achieve their goals using scientific evidence-based practices.
Dr. Scott’s journey into leadership development and executive coaching began over a decade ago after joining a top Global consulting firm, where she recognized the potential to use her psychological training to support individuals within the workplace. Over the years, she has established herself as a leading figure in the field, with a client list that includes organizations across various fields and industries. Her approach is based on a deep understanding of human behavior and the factors that drive performance and success. She uses this knowledge to help her clients reframe obstacles and challenges to reach their full potential.
After working in the field of consulting and leading numerous leadership development programs over the years, Dr. Scott took the leap and started her own business. Her desire to set her own path and do what she loves on a daily basis led her to create her own company, Serenity Psy Consulting in 2020, which has since focused on human-centered leadership development. Her passion for helping others and her empathetic personality led her to a career in psychology, but it wasn’t until she joined the consulting firm that she recognized the impact that she could have as a clinical psychologist in a business setting.
Serenity Psy Consulting provides human-centric leadership development solutions focused on creating customized programs that empower leaders to realize their full potential. At Serenity, Dr. Scott and her team believe that a thriving workplace culture is built on the foundation of happy and healthy employees. As such, their approach is grounded in positive psychology and focuses on creating a space for leaders to explore their leadership capacity.
Dr. Scott firmly believes that employee well-being is essential to a company’s success, stating that “employees are the heartbeat of the organization, and they must be well in order for your organization to thrive.” She also believes that companies that prioritize mental health and employee well-being inevitably will have high-performing teams.
Serenity offers a range of services that are customized to the specific needs of its clients within the areas of employee well-being; diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI); and effective leadership. Their workshops are highly interactive and designed to help learners build, and apply, the skills and knowledge acquired in the classroom. The coaching services provided by Serenity are informed by the latest research in cognitive and positive psychology, and their approach is based on identifying and utilizing the strengths of their clients. The primary purpose of each coaching session is to make the unconscious conscious, provide time for self-reflection and insight, and encourage behavioral change in a confidential setting.
Serenity also provides team-building and facilitated discussions that focus on challenging workplace topics aimed at fostering empathy, togetherness, and an overall sense of belonging among colleagues. These services are designed to enhance teamwork, promote collaboration, and resolve team related challenges through a series of engaging activities and solution focused dialogue.
Dr. Scott infuses diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) into every facet of her work and firmly believes that belonging is an outcome of servant leadership. She customizes her DEI work based on an organization’s needs, as well as their desired impact and readiness for change. She begins all of her client interactions with a consultation session to fully understand the culture of the organization and the etiology of the challenges they are uniquely experiencing. Dr. Scott’s journey as a Black female entrepreneur has been met with some challenges, but she has successfully established herself as a highly sought after professional. Drawing from her experience, Dr. Scott advises female entrepreneurs to recognize the power of collaboration by seeking out individuals who have already achieved success within their chosen business industry and learning from them. She also encourages them to perceive failure as a valuable learning opportunity and a precursor to success.
For leaders looking for better ways to manage their teams, Dr. Scott suggests that they begin with self-awareness and self-care, recognizing it as the first step for change of any kind. As she puts it, “It starts with you, so if you are in a space where you recognize how your behaviors impact those around you and engage in self-care practices that enable you to be the best version of yourself, then it will be much easier for you to provide an environment where others can do the same. So, self-awareness and self-care are where you should start.”
Dr. Scott’s advice to female entrepreneurs and leaders emphasizes the importance of collaboration, learning from failure, and self-awareness. Her words serve as a valuable reminder of the power of personal growth and development in achieving success in both personal and professional realms.
